Boston Book Festival: House of Secrets: Power, Memory & the Unquiet Self
What truths hide in ambition, loyalty, and the spaces we thought we knew? Three riveting and genre-bending novelists unravel stories that lie at the intersection of family dynamics, memory, and the uncanny. Their work probes the boundaries between what is spoken and what is silenced, what is passed down and what is concealed. Alma Katsu, the lauded author of The Taker trilogy and Bram Stoker Award winner, delivers Fiend—a contemporary horror about the Berisha dynasty, a global mogul clan whose seemingly perfect fortune is tethered to an ancient demonic presence. As power fractures, ambition and inherited curses collide in shocking ways. Tova Mirvis, renowned literary voice and author of The Book of Separation, returns with We Would Never—a domestic thriller inspired by real events. Mirvis probes a family unraveling amid custody battles, murder, and moral reckoning. Debut novelist Nicky González offers Mayra—a tale of childhood friendship and desire set deep in the Everglades. Longlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize, this narrative explores memory and identity shaped by wild landscapes and intimate bonds. These three distinctive works invite you into worlds both familial and fantastical—where secrets, grief, and power echo across generations. Join us for a compelling conversation led by Tatiana Johnson-Boria, author of Nocturne in Joy and founder of Johnson-Boria Creative, about what we carry, what we fear, and what we inherit.

How do poets harness the power of these twilight periods? How to they draw from the inherent tensions of these poetic modes?
